Star of Siam Restaurant Review:
Star of Siam, one of the first Thai restaurants in the city, is not free of complacency or carelessness. While it is a solid-enough option and some of the dishes are decent, it just does not always deliver. However, the soups are of note, especially the tom yum, and the chicken preparations — including stir-fried chicken with baby corn, carrots, pea pods and mushrooms — are quite good. The chicken massaman is a winner, too, and the satay with peanut sauce cannot be beat. Desserts are limited to ice cream, custard, Thai banana and lychee on ice. A unique seating area is a conversation starter; some diners will have to sit Indian style or on their knees on a raised platform dotted with low tables. Those with bad backs, you've been warned.
