Street Restaurant Review:
A happy crowd of regulars packs the narrow space for satisfying American fare at equally satisfying prices. The room is industrially appointed, but dark textured walls and candlelight soften it some. A no-reservation policy usually means some waiting time at the central bar, so indulge in crispy calamari or a plate of house-made pâté before sitting down at one of the tightly packed tables. Hearty appetites will appreciate the juicy burger offered with a choice of apple-smoked bacon, fire-roasted onions and sharp cheddar cheese. The ubiquitous grilled ahi tuna comes with a refreshing corn and roasted-pepper relish that makes it more interesting. Both the crab cakes and potato-herb dumpling are too doughy, but the popular Sunday night special---buttermilk fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and fresh corn---is terrific. Homey desserts like bread pudding or apple-berry cobbler will entice you to linger a bit longer, despite the gang of hungry diners eyeing your table.
