Sushi Sushi Restaurant Review:
If the cutting-edge Japanese cuisine at places like Matsuhisa is beginning to wear on you, go back to the basics at this highly traditional establishment. Don't let the generic name deter you --- this place is home to some serious sushi and attracts a selective clientele. The narrow, inviting storefront dining room is wrapped in sea grass, with soothing sage green accents and a touch of contemporary art. We recommend that you just relax and surrender your authority to the sushi chef and his omakase menu. You'll become the delighted recipient of a parade of uncomplicated yet impeccably fresh and artfully presented morsels from the sea: seared bonito, toro hand rolls, kanpachi and those coveted matsutake mushrooms. If you prefer to go à la carte, there are starters like noodles made from squid with sea urchin in a dashi sauce, salmon skin salad and clam soup. A handful of rolls and combination dishes are also available. To drink there are frosty Japanese draft beers and saké. For dessert, look for a unique parfait made with matcha pudding, fruit and green tea ice cream. Content to be relatively unnoticed on the quiet south end of Beverly Drive, Sushi Sushi is a pleasant discovery.
