Tacombi Restaurant Review:
Tacombi, a play on the words “taco” and “combi” (a mini-van/taxi in Mexico), was originally a taco stand in Playa del Carmen on the Riviera Maya. And like its south of the border kin, the New York City outpost also serves tacos out of a mini-van---except here, that VW bus is parked in a former garage space; chefs stand inside, the roof cut out. The chicken taco comes with plantains, adding an interesting complexity, and the slow-roasted pork taco has extra crunch thanks to the crispy red cabbage. Fish tacos come seared or deep-fried; we recommend the former. Wash it all down with a glass of horchata or one of several freshly squeezed juices.
