Tai Nang Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Dark wood abounds in this compact restaurant along a residential drag on Damen Avenue between Augusta and Division. Grab the front table for a window-side view of passersby while unassuming servers present huge bowls of Thai favorites. The relatively low volume makes this a great spot for catching up with friends.
Likes: Huge portions and BYOB.
Dislikes: A bit pricey for a neighborhood Thai spot.
Food & Drinks: Soups, salads, noodles, rice and curry dishes shape a well-rounded, uncomplicated menu. Crispy fried coconut shrimp gets more flavor from sweet chili sauce, while a beef salad with grilled beef, cucumber and tomato is a savory standalone appetizer. Entrée-wise, fried rice with hunks of crab is a house specialty, as is 3 Flavor Red Snapper served whole. Portions are large enough to share or bring home to enjoy the next day. Finish with Shibuya Honey Toast or Thai iced tea. Feel free to bring your own wine opener.
