Ted's Montana Grill Restaurant Review:
Electronic media guru turned restaurateur Ted Turner teamed up with George McKerrow Jr. of LongHorn Steakhouse to craft a chain of restaurants that gives diners the option of beef or bison when choosing burgers and other meat-based dishes. In so doing, Turner, the largest landowner in Montana, has found an outlet for his organically raised bison herd, although beef is a slightly less expensive alternative and there is chicken. Nineteenth-century design features create a warm atmosphere: pressed tin ceilings, period pendant lighting, ceiling fans, silver print photos and copies of artworks in Turner's private collection of Western landscapes. Besides chicken sandwiches and burgers, the best of which is the one topped with Maytag blue cheese, dinner brings on a first-rate bison pot roast or strip steak with creamy horseradish sauce. A Saturday special, bison short ribs, with mashed potatoes, are the most tender morsels ever savored. In a snack mood? Go for the bison sliders. We also suggest the house-made potato chips with onion ranch dip. The menu includes crab cakes, pecan-crusted trout, and roast turkey and trimmings on Sunday, too. For dessert, get a malted.
