THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Terrace Grill Restaurant Review:
Meet you for brunch on the terrace at La Playa. That’s what locals have been saying for years, privy to the omelet and Belgian waffle bar, free-flowing Champagne and mimosas. Commanding views of the hotel’s lush flower gardens and glimpses of the Pacific make this the stylish Sunday afternoon spot. Dinner is a disjointed affair. A few dishes like a roasted beet salad with citrus and micro greens or tiny bites of seared tuna au poivre sparkle, a glimmer of chef Bunyan Fortune’s potential. Most dishes embody an old-world continental spirit. If only Fortune modernized traditional entrées like halibut served on a bed of fettuccine or rack of lamb. House-made desserts are first-rate. A miniature pie explodes with fresh berries, its thick flaky pie crust a throwback to those left on windowsills all over America in the ’50s and an old fashioned slice of chocolate espresso cake is layered with dimension. Look beyond the pink pastel walls and discover the wood-paneled lounge and collection of old ports and sherries for an après-dinner nightcap.
