Thai Basil #1 Restaurant Review:
Thai Basil #1 has reliably good, reasonably priced food. The salad-like larb is refreshing and fiery. It's ample for two and a good change of pace from pad thai, though the restaurant does that well, too. For dinner, try the keaw wan, a lovely coconut-tinged green curry, or the spicy panang neua, a red curry that pairs best with beef. Tiger roast chicken --- half a chicken marinated in house special sauce, slowly roasted and topped with slivers of lemon grass --- is juicy and tender. Monterey Catch presents myriad California seafood including prawns, mussels, squid and scallops sautéed in a spicy chili sauce with eggplant, bell peppers, onions and sweet basil.
