The Thai Pan Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Would you ever expect to find a Thai restaurant sharing space with a local gas station? What, then, would you say to a Thai meal at Thai Pan, a small eatery adjacent to the gas pumps and with a few outdoor chairs for alfresco nibbling? For such a small place, the menu is extensive (busy chefs, busy kitchen) and you can snag some of your favorite Thai bites. Start with the crunchy fried tofu and the tender (and completely authentic) fish cakes, or tod mun. Both come with their appropriate dipping sauces, which only highlight flavors and textures. Depending on the size of your party and your appetite, you can order several noodle dishes --- we suggest the pad thai and Drunken Noodles --- and add to that a curry dish, such as the generic green curry with your choice of meats. On another visit, the roast duck curry would fill the bill; the crispy duck basil did not quite have the charm. But despite that and its strange location, Thai Pan rates as an above-average Thai spot that serves basically traditional fare without the usual Americanizations of too much sugar and not enough heat.
