THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Thomas Henkelmann Restaurant Review:
Thomas and Theresa Henkelmann create an unforgettable experience in a charming, renovated 18th-century manse that boasts 18 luxurious suites and rooms in three separate buildings. From the setting to the cuisine, not one minute detail goes overlooked. Visit the intimate bar-lounge for a pre-dinner cocktail. The dining room, with its half-timbered ceilings and fireplace, is divided into cozy booths and private rooms, all situated around the main tables. Service is invariably attentive, yet unobtrusive. And as for the cuisine, Henkelmann’s training under some of Europe's preeminent chefs (Paul Haeberlin, Eckart Witzigmann, etc.) ensures this German-born chef can deliver flawless classic French cuisine. Appetizers include sautéed shrimp with artichoke hearts, baby lettuce and vegetable pearls drizzled with a coriander vinaigrette. Entrées feature all-natural Prime sirloin with pommes Pont-Neuf and béarnaise sauce, and a tapenade and herb crusted rack of lamb with thyme-scented lamb jus. Henkelmann himself coordinates the comprehensive wine list dominated by fine French vintages. If all this somehow doesn’t impress, the desserts, such as a vacherin with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry sorbet consisting of layers of meringue, crème Chantilly and fresh berries, should do the trick. And if you happen to stay the night, one taste of the croissants the next morning will make you a believer all over again.
