Union on Yale Restaurant Review:
Sharing ownership with The Back Abbey, a nearby pub, is this Mediterranean entry with a sprawling courtyard. In it you'll find fountains, fire pits and something you don’t see at many restaurants in SoCal: a bocce court. A wood-burning oven turns out pizzas, but the eclectic menu encompasses everything from a British cottage pie to French boudin blanc and crudo. Regular entrées include flat-iron steak, oxtail poutine and a very crispy-skinned duck breast with black rice, while bucatini carbonara and Southern fried chicken are served family-style. A long bar offers first-rate cocktails, a wide array of craft beers and a surprisingly strong global wine list. For dessert, you can find a tasty cobbler to complement that fried chicken or tiramisu to follow a pasta or pizza. The design is streamlined and laid-back, with colorful modern art created by the owner’s own tattoo artist.
