Urban Chestnut Midtown Brewery & Biergarten Restaurant Review:
In an era of flat-screens everywhere and apps for this and that, one of the most beloved beer scene additions in recent memory was the simple German-style beer garden at Urban Chestnut. German-born brewmaster Florian Kuplent and his business partner, David Wolfe, offer a couple dozen beers on tap, accompanied by a menu of locally-sourced sausages, cheeses and pretzels that would fit right in at any beer garden across the Atlantic. Go with a featured pairing like the Winged Nut, the signature chestnut ale, with weisswurst and Bavarian mustard. Otherwise, order a sampler of beers and the charcuterie plate, which lets you find your own favorites among the (modern American) Revolution Series and the (classically European) Reverence Series. Seasonal brews change regularly, so be prepared for anything from the holiday pine scent of Old Tjikko to the seven-grain Pilgrim 7, and the Braggot, a combination of mead with Russian Imperial Stout.
