The Velvet Cactus Restaurant Review:
With some surprisingly good Mexican restaurants in New Orleans, The Velvet Cactus has a hard time holding its own among the competition. It suggests a 1980s Mexican-theme spot that appeared on the scene a few decades too late. Although located in the Lakeview area, one of the most up-and-coming dining destinations in the city, The Velvet Cactus has the feel of a chain restaurant, despite it not being part of any larger corporation. From the long waits for tables to the noisy atmosphere that does not allow easy conversation, to the overly sauced, under-seasoned Tex-Mex fare, The Velvet Cactus disappoints. As for desserts, lemon flan and tres leche cake are too sweet. Have a margarita and some chips at the bar and then move on for a quick dinner. Service, too, is mediocre.
