Venice Whaler Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Located on the Venice Beach Boardwalk right by the pier, Venice Whaler has attracted aficionados since 1944. Restaurateur Michael Dobson breathed new life into this iconic restaurant/bar, and raised the standard for eating in a part of town known for its beach atmosphere. Downstairs is a bar plus tables and chairs, while the upstairs seating features unobstructed views of the pier and the coast.
Likes: the location right-off the Venice boardwalk; PEI mussels in a kaffir lime cream.
Dislikes: the noise level; so busy, the line can be long --- but worth the wait.
Food & Drinks: You will find satisfying beach eats like fish tacos (grilled or beer battered cod). Enjoy the New England clam chowder on its own or in a poutine-style preparation of fries smothered in chowder and bacon. With the ocean so close by, one can’t help but steer towards seafood options. A must-have dish is the salmon, perfectly cooked and presented on a cedar-smoked. The classic burger is a staple on the menu, which also lists a few pizzas. For a sweet tooth, consider Key lime pie. An intense cocktail program and fourteen beers on draft have elevated Venice Whaler’s identity as a bar, but the restaurant has also built a reputation as a hidden gem on the Venice Beach Boardwalk.
