Viewpoint Brewing Co. Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: This sprawling 7,000-square-foot brewery in Del Mar is a rustic modern space that overlooks the water bird-dotted San Dieguito Lagoon and Del Mar Race Track. Kids, big and small, dig the skeeball games, cornhole toss, swing chairs and fire pit tables. Dogs are welcome too.
Likes: Great views and playful space; lively energy.
Dislikes: Food is a bit pricey for its quality; service hit or miss.
Food & Drinks: Twenty taps spill out tasty suds like Red Rye IPA, Mandarina Pale Ale, a French Smash Saison and Chocolate Stout. The elevated pub fare menu features starters with a spin like wings (we prefer the black lime dry rub over the Calabrian buffalo), oxtail sliders, battered shrimp with spicy ponzu mayo and pork belly bites with polenta and a molasses gastrique. The Chino Farms beet salad is a picturesque treat with pickled strawberries and Brie goat cheese, and the watermelon-feta-arugula salad is as refreshing as it sounds. While burgers with truffle fries seem to be the staple, there’s also a gooey Gouda mac-n-cheese. Mollusk fans should order up the PEI mussels and freely dunk the grilled baguette into the Hefeweizen garlic broth.
