Village Sushi Restaurant Review:

Village Sushi serves a creative selection of sushi rolls along with classic tempura and teriyaki dishes. Located in the heart of the University District, the cozy, mustard-colored space is decorated with artwork and images of jazz legends. The friendly staff will help recommend picks from the seasonal specials board. You may also choose among exotic items such as fresh raw Henderson Bay oysters, rockfish sashimi drizzled with a citrusy ponzu-soy sauce, and monkfish liver. There are also the standard California rolls and futomakis, but the delights are in the more offbeat creations. Hanabi Rolls, shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese and cucumber slices, are crusted with tempura flakes and tipped with spicy mayo. Our favorite is the Hot Summer Roll, a rice cylinder packed with tuna, salmon, white fish, crab and green onion, and then deep fried. For a sweet finish, try the mochi ice cream or green tea cheesecake.
