THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Vivo Cucina Restaurant Review:
Photographic murals on the outside of Vivo Cucina welcome guests; inside, owners Cory Beisel and Mike Atkinson have created a richly appointed and intimate restaurant, broken into several eating areas ranging from cozy wraparound booths to a semi-private room for small groups. The gold-toned walls, warm woods and artistic black-and-white photos add to the comfortable setting. Start with chunks of chewy, crusty bread dipped in olive oil. Move on to an appetizer of Toscanini shrimp fritta---plump fried shrimp served with two sauces and a roasted red pepper-and-lemon-pesto aïoli. The linguini alla pescatora could use a bit more spiciness in the tomato sauce, but the shrimp, mussels, clams and scallops are fine. The veal saltimbocca is a reasonable representation of this classic, though the dark sauce with mushrooms is unexpected. For dessert, go for the profiterole filled with vanilla ice cream and finished with a warm chocolate sauce drizzled tableside.
