W.D. Deli Restaurant Review:
With its occasional drag brunches and its everyday buzz of animated architects, designers, and even attorneys in intense conversation, W.D. Deli is a haven for both the creative and the conventional. Soups and sandwiches clearly cut across all social and sexual strata. The combination special with a cup of soup, half sandwich and small Caesar is the quickest way to get a fix on the fare. Chicken-studded tortilla soup, a Mexican classic, is always available, as is a sprightly tomato-basil; the chicken salad is enhanced with pine nuts; and the afore-cited Caesar with soft-cooked egg is spangled with comfortingly crude croutons. Typical sandwiches include a chicken chipotle with Parmesan and a Southwest roast beef made macho with jalapeño cream cheese. Desserts play a center-stage role in this exaggerated environment, and among them are a colossal carrot cake with lavish cream cheese frosting and a “big cookie.” (Yes, it is.) And dessert is the curtain call at W.D., and you can't leave without it.
