Yelapa Playa Mexicana, named for the beach town near Puerto Vallarta, sports an open air dining room, an upstairs private dining room, a hidden patio and a dining/bar area with a fireplace. The décor is reminiscent of a Mexican beach scene, and the food adds the final ole! Pacific Coast seafood is ramped up in dishes like the ceviche with Fuji apple, chorizo oil, grilled scallion and litchi pickle, topped with foam. Fish tacos here take on a whole new taste with chile mayo and fresh basil. Ingredients are locally farmed, such as the halal lamb served with Mexican “kim chee” and avocado. Seasonal dishes---like the cooling watermelon sopas---sparkle and the Sunday brunch and Wednesday Beach Parties come with off-menu surprises like whole-roasted pigs or migas Frito pies. Cold cerveza abounds, but Yelapa also mixes heady signature cocktails: The Red Bell Rings at Sunset is made with Corzo tequila and sweet red bell peppers with a spiced orange rim.
