Yen Ching Restaurant Review:
Even with mega-chain Chinese restaurants joining the downtown scene, locally owned Yen Ching rises above the norm. Red walls and dark wood provide traditional Asian appeal, but the lack of gloss coupled with straight lines takes a diner from Mao to Wow. On the menu side, orange-flavored Mandarin chicken or twice-pulled pork won't disappoint; these dishes are by no means original in name, but here their distinct flavor, robust with ginger and garlic, five-spice and secret spice, create a tantalizing balance between interesting and familiar. A more recent addition to the Yen Ching menu is a wide variety of dim sum. Order the steamed barbecue pork buns and siu mai and you'll hope your fortune cookie says, "Business travel will bring you back soon."
