Solis Winery
2009 Vino Roseo di Sangiovese

Santa Clara Valley, CA

A working winery since the 1920s, Solis was purchased in 1980 by the Vanni family, who are still running the wine company today. Solis bottles a wide variety of wine varietals and styles that the Vanni family believes showcases the versatility of the Santa Clara Valley. Currently, the winery makes Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, a Moscato and several blends as well as a rosé of Sangiovese. A rosy blush in the glass, the 2009 Vino Roseo di Sangiovese offers strawberry and peach aromas. Made in an off-dry rather than bone-dry style of rosé, the Sangiovese's flavors are of candied strawberry with zesty lemon acidity. It finishes fairly long with a dried peach note. A summery wine, this pretty pink will pair nicely with brunch and picnic foods like poached eggs and salmon, tarragon chicken salad or a country pâté. For a more formal occasion, try it with roasted pork tenderloin with peaches or seared salmon with a fennel and citrus salad.
