The world celebrates Germany for its famous beer, and its reputation for such almost overshadows the country's wine production. There are nearly 100 grape varieties grown in Germany, with the most popular being Riesling. Nearly one-fifth of all vineyards in the country plant the sturdy Riesling grape.

Known as the Deutscher Weinbauverband e.V. (abbreviated dwv) in Germany, the German Winegrowers' Association is a professional organization of German winegrowers founded in 1874.

Wines of Germany is focused on creating greater awareness and increased sales of German wine in the United States through educational and promotional activities. It is the primary information source on German wines for U.S. consumers, members of the wine trade and the media.
