THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED 3 Steeple St. Restaurant Review:
Open for 30 years and counting, 3 Steeple St. says a lot about the dining style of Providencians. First, it's a sneakily moody place, with exposed brick walls boasting paintings by locals Alison Paul, Lisa Champagne and May Yao, and mammoth windows peeking onto the seemingly far-removed urban bustle outside. Second, it serves solid, exuberantly crowd-pleasing eats. Hulking sandwiches like the signature grilled cheese with Dijon mustard and avocado on sourdough or the Raul Burger topped with Boursin cheese, bean sprouts and sunflower seeds are favorites. Textbook fried calamari is a nod to the town’s Italian-American heritage. A pan-roasted salmon filet, prepared Asian-style with a ginger crust and roasted almonds, then drizzled with organic soy sauce, celebrates the sea. Nothing fancy, totally likeable---now that's Providence.
