57th Fighter Group Restaurant Restaurant Review:
The driveway curves past WWII-era paraphernalia, arriving finally before a re-created French farmhouse from that time. Enter through a sandbag-lined bunker and request a table beside one of the large windows to capture views of modern corporate and pleasure aircraft, including the occasional bi-plane, as they taxi and land. Begin with the signature beer cheese soup. Bacon-wrapped fried oysters on a creamy horseradish-graced sauce also make a good starter. The huge spinach salad studded with plenty of bacon and apple slices is nearly a meal. Noteworthy, too, is the stuffed trout, brimming with succulent shrimp. Request the very good roasted pork tenderloin as slightly pink. Desserts change daily and are mostly cakes, such as an Italian lemon cake, molten lava cake and classic Southern red velvet cake, but there’s also Key lime pie. The wine list has been upgraded, and fields numerous values, with most priced well under $50.
