THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED An American Place Restaurant Review:
Using a combination of local products and regional delicacies, Larry Forgione has established his own particular interpretation of traditional-meets-contemporary American food. Located in what was the lobby of the old Statler Hotel, the high-ceilinged room is elegantly appointed and pleasantly bustling. For starters, we recommend the house-cured and smoked charcuterie platter. Forgione's take on local pork is a duo of roasted loin and braised shoulder, served with glazed turnips, sweet potatoes and mustard sauce. Among the “imported” dishes, oysters shine; ditto the meticulously assembled tray of American cheeses. And then there’s the seasonal fruit shortcake, a star of the dessert list. For anyone with business at St. Louis' convention center (or the Edward Jones Dome), this is well worth the easy stroll down Washington Avenue.
