THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Astral Restaurant Review:
An express ride in a glass-enclosed elevator followed by a sparkling 270-degree cityscape view---how do you top that? Quite simply by lingering over a drink at the bar or, better still, dining at Astral. Perched atop Sydney’s casino hotel, Star City, it has the city at its feet. As if this is not enough, a 13-foot wall of wine and a strikingly modern chandelier set the tone for any evening. Head chef Sean Connelly’s several menus ranging from three to 16 courses are up to the task of providing matching fare. Three set-price tasting menus (Vegetarian, Tasting and Gourmand) are each available with matching wines. Then there’s the à la carte menu, as well as a lunch and two- or three-course pre-theatre menu, ideal for those going on to take in a show elsewhere in the complex. Connelly’s creations include sea urchin gazpacho, Parmesan-infused spatchcock or chestnut gnocchi, and for a supplementary price, Tasmanian rock lobster or Wagyu beef. No one complains at this though. There may be a casino nearby, but dining satisfaction at Astral is a pretty sure bet.
