THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Atlantic Star Restaurant Review:
After a year studying in New York, Fariba and Tommy Todd moved back to Atlanta and found a history-rich space in an old ice manufacturing plant (Atlantic Star Coal & Ice) rehabbed for residential lofts. Inside this contemporary brasserie are two generous dining rooms---one perfect for private parties---and a welcoming bar. There is also a raw bar, where one may sit and slurp raw oysters. Some appetizers, such as the mussels steamed in white wine and served with french fries, could easily do entrée duty, especially if paired with a salad. Comfort food rules here, particularly a braised pork shoulder with cheese and macaroni and a flavorful ham hock jus. For vegetarians, the bucatini pasta with ricotta cheese and tomatoes should keep tummies warm. Desserts are classic bistro fare, from bread pudding to crème brûlée. The wine list is short but thoughtfully selected. Adventurous choices include an Albariño and a good rosé, and the prices are mostly well under $20 a bottle. The house Champagne is Nicolas Feuillatte, a fine choice.
