Clementine's Steak House Restaurant Review:
A throwback to simpler times, Clementine’s Steak House embodies the unpretentious little beach town of Carpinteria. Dining here is like going over to grandma’s for dinner, right down to the frilly curtains, lace doilies and obligatory slice of homemade pie that accompanies every meal. Irene McLenithan, who will likely greet you at the door, bakes the pies every morning. And, dare I say, they will top even your dear grandmother’s finest. Meanwhile, Irene’s son Lloyd mans the kitchen, preparing classic American country fare: his New York steak is topnotch, as are his simply prepared fresh fish dishes and fried chicken. If you opt for chicken, get the “regular” size rather than “petite” (an arrant misnomer) and ask for a to-go box on the side. You’ll need it. Entrées come with homemade bread, soup, salad, fresh vegetables, choice of potato or rice---and, of course, pie. Service here is kind and unaffected, matching the restaurant’s character.
