Junoon Restaurant Review:

This elegant restaurant in the Flatiron District serves well-executed and creative takes on Indian fare. Portions are small but each dish packs a lot into each bite. The wine list is long and thoughtful, with a lot of varieties that pair well with spicy curries. Two nuggets of tandoori chicken arrive on a plate; hidden underneath them are strands of spaghetti squash and incendiary ghost peppers (that don’t overwhelm the flavor). Eggplant comes out crispy with tamarind accents. And the (very spicy) shrimp curry and the tender star anise-laced lamb shoulder deliver sauce that is worthy of scooping up with the warm crispy naan. Save room for dessert: saffron-laced rice pudding is a sweet finish to a meal.
