THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Slanted Door Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Slanted Door chef/founder Charles Phan passed away in 2025. First opened in San Francisco's Mission District in 1995, Slanted Door then moved and anchored the northeastern corner of the Ferry Building. This branch closed in 2020 but there are plans to return to the original space at 584 Valencia Street and re-open in Spring 2025.
Food & Drinks: Slanted Door is not your average Vietnamese restaurant. The wine list has been thoughtfully paired with the food, the moneyed vibe is see-and-be-seen, and the pastry chef turns out an amazing chocolate cake. The food adds California flair to authentic Vietnamese flavors and techniques. Crispy imperial rolls served with mint, lettuce, vermicelli and light vinaigrette are a good way to begin. Chicken simmered in a clay pot with caramel sauce, ginger and shallots, or the shaking beef, tender cubes of filet mignon stir-fried with garlic and served over lettuce, are both nice choices. Beers and specialty teas are offered in addition to the wines.
