The venerable auction house of Sotheby's went modern with its oh-so-chic café, its walls hung with Cecil Beaton black-and-white photographs. The clientele is as sophisticated as you would expect, but the café is very friendly and the food is good enough for it to be a first-rate dining venue in its own right. A short menu gives three starters, mains and more desserts. Afternoon tea £6.50-£12.50.
