Backstreet Restaurant offers an eclectic selection of creatively prepared dishes in a laid-back, family-style atmosphere. The bar is usually packed --- this is a favorite watering hole for locals. A smoked trout platter with horseradish sauce and a Louisiana crab cake with a beurre blanc sauce are among the well-executed starters. Entrées range from calf’s liver Pommery (sautéed with sherry vinegar and Pommery mustard) to grilled tournedos of beef with melted Saga blue cheese, spinach and a demi-glaze sauce. There is a fully stocked bar as well as a variety of white and red wines on offer to precede or accompany the meal.
