THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Beast Restaurant Review:
Vegans, vegetarians, and the adipose-averse need not apply. A poster hanging in chef Naomi Pomeroy's kitchen says "Praise the Lard." Her classical French cooking background is influenced by her enthusiasm for Oregon’s bounty. This combination leads to such creations as the foie gras bonbon, a standard treat with the six-course, prix-fixe meal offered at two seatings each week. Meals are prepared family-style, instead of to-order. This system doesn't allow substitutions, so come prepared for an interesting ride. (Tuesdays feature a four-course dinner with vegetarian options.) Carefully selected wine pairings may be added for an additional cost. One may typically encounter a tomato, ham and white bean soup; a charcuterie plate; sautéed Gulf shrimp with breakfast radish; a shaved zucchini, cucumber, feta and walnut salad; and an array of cheeses. For dessert, consider the lemon almond cake with strawberry sherbet. A similarly lavish three-course brunch is offered on Sundays. The kitchen is open to the attractive, intimate dining room, where all food is served at two long, dark wood tables, so plan on engaging in conversation with your neighbors.
