THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bellavitae Restaurant Review:
Italian restaurants in Greenwich Village have been a dime a dozen since the dawn of man, so when something classic and simple comes along, it’s worthy of commendation. Bellavitae, an offshoot of owner Rolando Beramendi’s food import business, serves up simple, rustic fare that spans the Italian peninsula. After all, the chef knows where to get the best ingredients---from the owner, who supplies many of the Italian kitchens in New York. From Gorgonzola crostone drizzled with chestnut honey from Lake Como to the hand-sliced prosciutto di Parma Langhirano and the house-made pork sausage, the tender touch of the kitchen is a delight to experience. There’s no showiness here, just classic dishes like pasta with tomatoes and capers or pork filet with caramelized onions roasted in the brick oven. Many of the oils and other items used in the kitchen are also available to purchase.
