Birchwood Cafe Restaurant Review:
This neighborhood restaurant eschews the eat-your-vegetables attitude of your local co-op and instead delivers healthy, socially conscious dishes with a down-home warmth that’s reminiscent of an all-American diner. The kitchen and dining room share the same airy space giving Birchwood an intimate feel. If you don't see your first choice on the chalkboard posted near the register, know that your special request is just a holler away. Soups, sandwiches, pizzas and quiche change daily. A favorite is the jerk-marinated pulled pork sandwich, served with “a pineapple pickle, buttermilk bun and love.” The Birchwood is best for lunch, when you and a friend can have a veggie pizza (think: cauliflower, asparagus, spinach). Desserts range from the sensible fruit cobbler to the decadent, creamy Key lime pie.
