THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Birdcage Restaurant Review:
Unexpected Bohemian exoticia in the heart of Fitzrovia, Michael von Hruskas theatrically decorated jewel of a restaurant filled with global artefacts serves idiosyncratic fusion cuisine with a strong SouthEast Asian slant reflecting his previous position at I-Thai at The Hempel. Dishes are opulently described and presented, but tastes dont necessarily match up to the almost illegible purple prose of the menu. The inventive bread basket is extraordinairly good. Successful dishes include a tom yam soup, Thai-spiced coconut chicken with couscous and cinnamon lamb with cèpes, but the truly adventurous can try myrtle shark risotto with cumin marscapone. Delicious, visually mesmerising ice concoctions for dessert. The origami-style wine list is presented in a gilded birdcage. Service can be unpredictable---even downright eccentric. Set 2-course lunch £19.75, 3 courses £26.50; set 2-course dinner £28, 3 courses £36.50.
