THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED It's a handsome remake for a downtown Clayton space, bistro-esque in front with the sort of chairs found neatly parked in front of a hundred Paris cafés. Cozy corners help reduce noise, and mirrors farther back fill the need to see just who's there. Many diners knew the chef and the owner from the country club where the former worked and the latter ate, so all the hugging and waving is extremely genteel. The modern American menu includes a dozen or so small plates---wild mushroom and onion tarts are a winner---and a half-dozen entrées and several steaks. The savory dishes, always beautifully plated, could sometimes benefit from a more generous hand with herbs and spices, but the desserts are as satisfying as they are creative.
