Bodensee Restaurant Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Helen, Georgia, is a town whose livelihood depends on tourism, fostered by a faux-Alpine architecture that aims to suggest German ambience. Chef/owner Aurel Prodan named his restaurant for a lake fed by the Rhine River, and its homey, family-style interior is welcoming, and not overdone with kitsch.
Food & Drinks: Romanian by birth and training, Prodan spent much time cooking in Germany (Bavaria and Schwabenland). Now well established in Helen, he and his wife Doina focus on classic German cuisine. We've enjoyed several dishes, from the sausages and (especially) the goulash to the schnitzels. Fans of Berlin's famous street snack, curry wurst, will find it on the menu. American fare is interspersed among the offerings, but who comes here for buffalo wings? Don't pass up dessert, especially if the apple strudel is available. The wine and beer lists could be better; however, you'll find a decent Riesling to pair with the food.
