BomboBar Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Locals queue up to tablets to place their orders at this quick-serve burger and sweets shop. Up front: a serve-it-yourself station powered by an RFID chip which allows guests to pour the red, white, rosé and cocktails from the tap. High-top tables make up most of the dining room, but just as many customers order takeout. White lights hang above the patrons, who can also opt for patio seats when the weather is warm. Watch out for the occasional Fabio sighting.
Likes: A short but solid menu and hospitable service.
Dislikes: The cocktails and wine on tap might take a minute to figure out; ask for help.
Food & Drinks: Like its West Loop sister, this branch is known for its impossibly sweet, perfectly Instagrammable bombolinis (a holeless doughnut pumped with fillings). If there's room, start with a decadent Bomboburger, fired to juiciness and dressed with sharp American cheese, red onions and creamy Dijonnaise. A side of plump, crispy Parmesan fries can be shared among two people. Don't skip the gelato. A rainbow of flavors tempts with offerings like Cookie Monster Dough (identifiable by the bright blue gelato specked with cookie bits), Banana Split and White Chocolate Raspberry. There’s a walk-up window in the West Loop at 832 W. Randolph St., 312-967-7000.
