THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bon Vivant Restaurant Review:
This sunny café mixes white tablecloths, a raw wood communal center table and a tasteful bar backed with framed mirrors to create a pleasant spot for a quiet meal just steps from the whirlwind of University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. Dishes honor classic French cuisine. Start with one of two preparations of duck confit --- if available, we favor the creative pairing of brown butter figs and cauliflower. Escargots are also offered two ways, and as you have to use your hands (no tongs provided), be willing to get a bit messy. Roast salmon comes with a crisp crust of salt and spice and the filet mignon en croûte arrives with a thin layer of pastry wrapped around individual pieces. Chocolate pot de crème is updated slightly with a misting of light herbal flavor. The wine list is distinguished by its extensive attention to Champagnes by the glass and bottle.
