THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Boxwood Cafe Restaurant Review:
This is one of Gordon Ramsay’s more casual ventures, but it’s still a place for celebrity spotting, albeit on a less grand scale than at Claridge’s. You descend into the restaurant via a stairway made for sweeping down. Designed by Californian Barbara Barry, the space below is comfortable and stylish; the buzz of contented diners a pleasure. The menu is sophisticated and lengthy, offering well prepared starters like warm salad of smoked haddock, endive and potato with a mustard dressing or fired oysters with fennel and lemon. Steamed bass with spiced aubergine, peas and broad beans is masterly combined with herb gnocchi, peas and carrots. The emphasis is on top ingredients, sourced from Britain where possible, skillfully cooked. Service is relaxed and knowledgeable. Sunday brunch has become a Knightsbridge institution. Lunch and early supper Sun.-Fri. 2 courses £21, 3 courses £25. 6-course Taste of Boxwood Menu £55; addition of wines by the glass for each course £46.
