THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Brix Restaurant Review:
At this comfortably minimalist, smallish space strewn with brown butcher paper-covered tables and touting a groovy, global menu, choosing what to eat isn’t easy. Order some pre-appetizers---small plates of garlicky hummus, mixed olives, or roasted nuts flavored with an herb-scented olive oil. Then choose a poached-egg-and-bacon salad, a plate of shepherd's pie (made with duck, mashed potatoes and melted sharp cheddar), some of Mum's beef stew (tender meat ladled over mashed potatoes), or an order of fish ‘n’ chips served with malt vinegar and homemade tartar sauce. For dessert: retro chocolate pudding or a shot and a beer (a Guinness-flavored cheesecake with Irish whiskey-spiked chocolate sauce). There's a long list of affordable beers and wines. House wine is served in juice glasses, and Pabst Blue Ribbon arrives in a paper bag.
