THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Buggy Whip Restaurant Review:
The Buggy Whip has been going strong since 1949 and, we suspect, hasn't changed much since. But in trend-conscious L.A., that's a refreshing concept. Indeed, walking into the clubby dining room, with its red leather booths, old-fashioned cocktails and piano player crooning Sinatra classics, is like entering a time warp to the Rat Pack era. The kitchen does a respectable job with traditional starters such as a jumbo shrimp cocktail, escargots cooked in a rich butter sauce, and a romaine salad with blue cheese dressing. Roast beef is the house specialty, with different sized cuts depending on hunger demand, each served with a starter salad or cup of clam chowder. Cioppino, chicken piccata and rack of lamb are other options for non-beef eaters. Homemade cheesecake, tiramisu and apple pie are a few of the comforting desserts.
