Café Dupont Restaurant Review:
Café Dupont occupies a circa 1870s brick building, and the dark wood-enhanced Sidebar and pale vanilla-walled dining room have a traditional feel. It has become a favorite for couples celebrating anniversaries because the food is attractively plated and the atmosphere romantic. Chef-owner Chris Dupont has handed over the reins to longtime sous chef Chris Evans. The kitchen excels at light and crispy fried foods, so fried oysters and okra is a good choice, as is the lunchtime buttermilk fried chicken laid over creamed potatoes with a splash of lemon beurre blanc. Grilled Manchester Farms quail is recommended either at lunch or dinner. We also recommend the beef short rib with white truffled potato soufflé. Or try the butter poached Destin flounder with cherry tomato and baby lima bean ragoût. The restaurant can whip up plates for vegetarians, too. Beignets with a snowy topping of powdered sugar and the bananas Foster with vanilla bourbon ice cream will tempt as well. There’s a nicely selected wine list with some options served by the glass, along with craft beer and cocktails.
