THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Tacuba Restaurant Review:
No pretenses here. No hidden Colombian or Salvadoran side dishes. The menu says Mexican, and that's what the kitchen serves forth---with one or two Tex-Mex options, such as fajitas and nachos. Never mind. The cooking here is so solid and outstanding that we wish that Café Tacuba had more locations. The good food here sets the scene and draws the crowds; many tables are even filled for weekend lunch. Fans have discovered the joys of the enchilada with chicken mole and the outstanding tablones, or grilled, boneless short ribs in a robust chili sauce. Other choices span the Mexican repertoire, from shrimp in a garlic-and-lime sauce to enchiladas suizas, or enchiladas filled with spinach and crab meat and covered with a creamy tomatillo sauce. Even the ersatz fried ice cream with its coating of crushed coconut, scented with cinnamon, merits a thumbs-up.
