THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED California Cafe Restaurant Review:
Next to the Magic Kingdom, the gargantuan Florida Mall is the most visited tourist attraction in central Florida. Though its a somewhat odd location for upscale dining, California Café has a built-in clientele---hungry shoppers who dont mind dropping $7.50 for a Mondavi chardonnay or one of more than 30 wines by the glass. The wine list is impressive for a shopping mall eatery, with nearly 100 choices of California wines on the list. Relax with a wine flight, with three 2-ounce tastings to accompany your meal. Chef John Piombo has created a refreshingly light menu, from sushi rolls to salads like grilled shrimp with fennel, white beans, bacon and a herb lemon vinaigrette, as well as sandwiches. For heartier appetites, theres smothered chicken with greens, garlic mashed potatoes and gravy, or a barbecue skirt steak with goat cheese, jalapeno butter and fries. We lean toward the brick-oven pizzas, with blackened chicken, portobello mushrooms and other flavorful toppings. The sleek dining room is a pleasant surprise in the bustling mall, and worth seeking out when youre ready to relax.
