THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Canal Restaurant Review:
Part restaurant and part catwalk, the centerpiece of the high-end spot is a live fashion runway flanked by massive projection screens broadcasting international couture shows alternating with live kitchen action. Servers are dressed in the latest garb, competing with the good looks of the youthful clientele; pulsating lights throb under the music; and the place even has a slogan: “an electrifying fusion of food, fashion and entertainment.” “Food,” actually, is an apt description for the contemporary comfort fare that’s more competent than compelling. There’s nothing daring (nor distracting from the pricey cocktails, and that’s the point) in dishes like the duck confit tostada, beef short ribs, steamed bass in citrus vinaigrette or the signature stunt sandwich, which is actually a $30 baguette stuffed with lobster tail, morel mushrooms, Boursin, avocado, tomato and lobster claw tempura alongside Parmesan fries. Old Town Scottsdale? This feels like Vegas, baby. Just how trendy is it? You'll know once you try one of the fun, funky, expensive "TV" dinners.
