THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Canaletto Ristorante Veneto Restaurant Review:
Located on the outer circle of Newport Beach's Fashion Island is this Italian restaurant that has a sibling at The Venetian resort in Las Vegas. The rather sexy white marble bar with an inlaid-wood ceiling may be one of Newport's best hot spots for relaxing and socializing. The main dining room, with its barrel-shaped ceiling and romantic vibe, is refreshingly soothing. Prices are also comforting, so order up some sliced-at-the-moment charcuterie, or perhaps the swordfish carpaccio, a vegetable and bean soup or a meal-worthy pizza. As for the main courses, try the scaloppine ai carciofi e limone (thinly pounded veal sautéed with sliced baby artichokes and lemon); vermicelli cassopipa (pasta with fish ragù, clams, mussels and shrimp served tableside); or the juicy rotisserie chicken. Canaletto is known for its risotto, so consider the signature version with fresh shrimp, crab and baby artichoke. Don't pass up the fresh-from-the-oven warm cookie medley or the tiramisu for dessert.
