THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Caprial's Westmoreland Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Caprial and John Pence are two of Portland’s star chefs who can claim fame with a nationally televised PBS cooking show, several cookbooks, and cooking classes. Yet the duo is completely accessible to local fans and still follows a “cooking for family and friends” bent. Despite their exposure, Caprial's original bistro hasn't suffered a bit either. Food here is “comfort” yet eclectic, often mixed with Asian, French or Italian influences, and layered with the Pacific Northwest's seasonal local bounty in a constantly changing menu. Dinner entrées may include ricotta gnocchi tossed with arugula, speck, Calabrian chilies, wild mushrooms and Parmesan brodo, or spinach pasta served with lemon meatballs. Diners will feel immediately comfortable in the handsome, expansive space defined by several distinct areas: small tables and plush tuxedo chairs line windows facing the street; an elegant little bar area is lit so bottles glow before a glass wall; and the large central dining area is inviting.
