THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Chew Man Chu Restaurant Review:
This sexy new take on Pan-Asian cuisine is powered by French-trained chef Tyson Wong Ophaso, who translates his own Chinese, Thai and Japanese heritage into a fetching array of modern dishes. The offerings range from oversize bowls of noodles and wonton soups to dumplings stuffed with ginger-spiked oxtail and garlicky bits of pork and scallion, to chicken and shrimp pad thai and oven-smoked black pepper steak. Ophaso, who worked with Daniel Boulud and André Soltner in New York, prepares each dish with pristine ingredients and bold flavors. This is a good choice for a quick pre- or post-theater dim sum. Beware: The salt and pepper crusted shrimp with spicy garlic aïoli can be habit forming. Pair this zesty fare with a spicy Zin or flowery Viognier---two of a number of wines by the glass. There's also a line-up of saké, imported beers and specialty cocktails featuring ingredients like plum wine, ginger and fresh mint.
